Call for Paper: Multiscale Rock Physics for Unconventional Resources (MRPUR)

Unconventional resources, including shale oil and gas, tight gas, coalbed methane, gas hydrate, and oil sand, are and will continue to change the world's energy pattern. Multiscale rock physics is essential for discovering and understanding the relations between the rock and fluids properties and various geophysical measurements (e.g. seismic and electrical) through experimentation, imaging process and numerical modeling. Therefore, the storage, transport, and engineering properties of unconventional reservoirs can be better characterized. This special issue aims to advance scientific understanding of multiscale rock physics for unconventional resources, facilitating their exploitation and development.

This special issue invites original research articles as well as comprehensive review articles addressing improved multiscale rock physics for unconventional resources. Potential topics of this special issue mainly include, but are not limited to:

  • Experimental rock physics and imaging techniques at different scales
  • Theoretical modeling and numerical study at different scales
  • Elastic and mechanical properties at different scales
  • Transport and multi-phases fluids flow at different scales
  • Electrical and petrophysical characterization
  • Rock-fluids interaction for unconventional resources
  • Seismic reservoir characterization of unconventional resources
  • Geomechanics and hydraulic fracturing for unconventional reservoirs
  • Digital rock physics and machine learning for unconventional resources

Submission Guidelines:

  • All submitted papers must be clearly written in excellent English and contain only original work, which has not been published by or is currently under review for any other journals. All papers will be peer-reviewed according to the reviewing policy of AGER. This is virtual special issue, in which all accepted papers will be published immediately.
