Call for Paper: Virtual Special Issue on Rock Physics in Geo-Energy Exploration and Development (RPGED)

Geo-energy usually resides in the rocks beneath the Earth’s surface, and rock physics links the properties of these rocks to geophysical observables via in situ field observations, laboratory experiments as well as deduction from theoretical or numerical models that reveal physical principles. The results of rock physics can help to identify potential sweet locations in the exploration stage and to provide an estimation of the degree of development during production. As such, rock physics has become an increasingly important component for the exploration and development of geo-energies. This special issue is organized with the purpose to invite papers reporting novel experimental, theoretical, and practical progress in rock physics geo-energy exploration and development.

We invite investigators to contribute to this special issue with original research articles as well as comprehensive review articles addressing the recent advances of rock physics techniques targeting geo-energy researches both in theory and methods.

Potential topics of this special issue mainly include, but are not limited to:

  • Multiphysics
  • Rock physics of unconventional reservoirs
  • Digital rock physics
  • Machine learning
  • Pressure and temperature dependent rock properties
  • Rock-fluid reactions
  • Fluids dynamic monitoring
  • Remaining oil saturation prediction
  • Formation evaluation
  • Seismic-fluid identification
