Call for Paper: Virtual Special Issue on Big Data + Geo-Energy (BDG)

Data has been recognized as an essential driving force for the development of the human life, social economy and industrial productions, with the increasing integration of advanced information and communication technologies into various engineering applications. The concept of Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Twin has been proposed and popularized in not only academic investigations, but also public medias, focusing on the deepening understanding of data generation, data collection, data transmission and data mining. Such trend has brought new challenges as well as opportunities to the energy industry, in both terms of promoting intelligent production and improving the management efficiency. A much larger amount of data can be available, as well as a much stronger data simulation technique with the aid of machine learning or deep learning. The developing digitization, intelligence and informatization of the energy industry, especially the well-developed geo-energy industry with a long history, has characterized the relevant available data as massive, heterogeneous and multi-source. Big data techniques are expected to handle the massive quantities of data acquired from various resources, analyze the underneath relationships among the key features, predict the further operation and management states in the energy systems and guide the determination and optimization of geo-energy policies.

To facilitate the exchange and dissemination of original research results and state-of-the-art reviews pertaining to the application of big data techniques in geo-energy studies efficiently, we propose this special issue that aims to bring together researchers in the aforementioned fields to highlight the current developments of big data techniques targeting energy researches both in theory and methods, to exchange the latest research ideas, and to promote further collaborations in the community. We invite investigators to contribute to this special issue with original research articles as well as comprehensive review articles addressing the recent advances. Only the most influential work will be considered in this special issue.

  • All submitted papers must be clearly written in excellent English and contain only original work, which has not been published by or is currently under review for any other journals. All papers will be peer-reviewed according to the reviewing policy of AGER. This is virtual special issue, in which all accepted papers will be published immeditaly.
